What does EJR Legal Group Membership include?
Direct access to Jesse A. Rodriguez for representation on work-related matters including reasonable accommodations (including telework), workplace disputes, harassment, retaliation, and EEO and Workplace Violence investigatory interviews.
After nine consecutive months of membership, coverage expands to include representation before the State Personnel Board, Public Employment Relations Board, and CalHR.
Who is eligible?
Any California public-sector employee.
What does it cost?
$62.50/month for 12 months ($750/year). Founding Members—defined as the first 750 employees to enroll—lock in that rate permanently. It will never increase.
After the first 750 employees enroll, membership will close for a period and reopen at higher rates.
How is EJR Legal Group different from union representation?
Unions serve important functions, including collective bargaining and contract negotiations. But when it comes to individual workplace issues, members are often represented by volunteer job stewards rather than attorneys. EJR Legal Group members receive professional legal representation directly from Jesse A. Rodriguez, Esq.—every time.
Can I be a member of my union and EJR Legal Group?
Yes, and EJR Legal Group encourages it. EJR Legal Group is a law firm, not a labor union. Membership provides legal representation on individual employment matters—it does not include collective bargaining, contract negotiations, or political advocacy, which are all very important services provided by labor unions.
Will EJR Legal Group file a lawsuit on my behalf?
If the facts and circumstances warrant it, yes. Each matter is evaluated on its merits.
Most cases taken to court are handled on a hybrid/contingency fee basis. Law firms typically take 45% or more of a client's recovery. EJR Legal Group members will receive no more than a 35% contingency rate.
Is there a membership commitment?
Yes. Membership requires a twelve-month commitment, then continues month-to-month until canceled.
Am I entering into an attorney-client relationship?
Yes. Each member signs an individualized agreement that sets out the scope of representation, cost, and other terms, so you know exactly what is covered.
How is representation provided?
Virtual, telephonic, and electronic communication—consistent with how California public-sector labor matters are handled today. Since 2020, the vast majority of SPB hearings, court appearances, investigatory interviews, and other proceedings have been conducted remotely.
